The $5 Challenge
The lack of an absolute poverty line in Singapore means a class of poor is hidden within our nation.
After paying utilities, schooling, rental, loans and medicals, some 105,000 families in Singapore are left with $5 a day for food and transport per family member.
What if we could step into the shoes of the less privileged by limiting our daily spending to just $5?
For a month, I limited my daily spending to just $5 and journaled the entire experience on Facebook each day. I also donated the remainder of my pocket money to charity.
The campaign was featured on Yahoo! Singapore and even reached countries like Australia, Kenya, Nepal, the Netherlands, Pakistan, South Korea, the UK, and USA.
